The Power Poll Era

1993 - unknown

The Power Poll Era is the eighth era of the unofficial interhall football chronology. The period begins in 1993 with the introduction of the Power Poll, a weekly ranking of the men's and women's football teams based on a poll from the interhall sportswriters. My research on interhall football is unfinished, so it is not yet clear when this era ends, although I believe that it will continue into the 21st century.

Other ranking systems had existed in the past for a short time, but the Power Poll was the first to stick around for multiple seasons and it coincided with a general uptick in interest for the interhall program at Notre Dame. A weekly Player of the Week distinction was also announced with the poll, allowing the stars of individual players to shine like never before. The poll lasted for five seasons, last being issued in the 1997 season.
