In the Media

The vast majority of information regarding interhall football at Notre Dame can be found in two places, the Notre Dame Scholastic, which was the primary student newspaper on campus from 1867 to 1966, and the Observer, which took over that mantle in 1967 and has kept it ever since. The university yearbook, The Dome, also provides ample information on some of the earlier seasons, and also provides high quality pictures. However, interhall football has periodically escaped this local cult status and appeared in newspapers, books, and even films!

Newspapers

The most common newspaper to report interhall football contests was the South Bend Tribune, which picked up many games before the Sullivan hiatus of the late thirties.

Websites

Believe it or not, this isn't the first website to be dedicated to interhall football. About a year into my project, I discovered this weebly.com site from 2009 that provides an overview of the program, as well as interviews from players and an analysis of the sport's place within the larger themes of masculinity, dorm culture, and brotherhood.

Films

  • In 2000, NFL Films featured the interhall football program in their _____series. The same video is linked on my homepage.

  • David Ruffer: Rudy 2.0: an NFL Films production on the career of David Ruffer, a Siegfried player who became starting kicker for the Fighting Irish in 2007.

Books

  • Games the Irish Play by RecSports assistant director Rich O'Leary is

  • In Murray Sperber's Notre Dame football history book Shake Down the Thunder, the author mentions the interhall football program on many occasions.
